The universe is both the setting and the story in “Silent Sky," by Lauren Gunderson, a play based on the life of astronomer Henrietta Swan Leavitt and her work with a dedicated group of women, including Annie Cannon and Williamina Fleming, at Harvard Observatory in the 19th century. It is a tale of passion, tenacity, sacrifice, luminosity, and working to find our place in the vastness of space. This one hour cutting of the play was created by the Salina Community Theatre and was a nominee for Best Play at the 2019 American Association of Community Theatre AACTfest 2019 in Gettysburg, PA. “To be able to perform this play in this facility is a dream - a palpable fusion of art and science” – Director, Linda Miller
